Vanessa Kirby’s Mini Biography

Vanessa Kirby grew up in Wimbledon, London, with her parents and two siblings. Her acting career began with Theatre Work when she signed up with a talent agency and met theatre director David Thacker, who gave her many starring roles on stage. For one of them, she even won a BIZA Rising Star Award at the Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards.
After receiving a lot of critical acclaim in Theatre, Kirby got her big break in TV in the BBC series, The Hour. Her biggest breakthrough, though, which made her a fan favourite (including mine), was the role of Princess Margaret in The Crown. She was also nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for this role. Her work in films is also something that we cannot ignore. For her emotionally raw and intense performance in Pieces of a Woman (2020), Kirby bagged a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She’s won over audiences in big franchises like Fast & Furious and Mission: Impossible as well.
A fun fact about the Fantastic Four star is that she isn’t just about the big screen. She is also an entrepreneur with strong business intent. She co-founded the production company Aluna Entertainment with her sister, Juliet Kirby, in 2021.

As someone who is a big fan of retro-futuristic aesthetics, I cannot recommend this film enough. Fantastic Four: First Steps is not just another fan service. It is a valid and authentic reboot of one of Marvel’s comics that is a treat to the eyes and heart.
Vanessa Kirby, as the sneaky peek-a-boo queen, Sue Storm, will surely make you obsessed with her. This film explores her inner turmoil, too, as Sue is pregnant in the beginning, battling between choosing motherhood and saving the world, giving the character enough depth for us to get attached to her beyond her “Heroic Glory”.

Why You’ll Love it
This Fast & Furious spin-off is all about the banter. Forget about a complicated, deep plot that would make you scratch your head. This one’s a ride (pun intended) full of over-the-top action, jokes and…*drum-rolls*… of course, the crazy chemistry between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham. We see them do what they do best— trading hilarious insults while kicking some serious butt.
Plus, you get an awesome villain played by Idris Elba, and a fantastic performance from Vanessa Kirby as a tough, resourceful MI6 agent who more than holds her own.
It’s the perfect popcorn movie for a night in.

Why You’ll Love it
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be one of the Royals, then this is your ticket. I really didn’t care much while going in, thinking, “How interesting can a show about the royal family be?” but oh boy, did it prove me wrong? I binged a whole season in one night!
Not being biased, but Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret steals the first two seasons. She brings raw energy and unapologetic drama to a life tragically bound by the Crown. Her frustration and flair make her as real as one can be putting her as a complete contrast to her duty-bound sister.
Margaret’s charm and personality is something that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Why You’ll Love it
Probably Vanessa Kirby’s best performance to date. Playing a grieving woman after a heartbreaking home birth requires a layered and empathetic understanding of grief and motherhood. Kirby pulls it off with great finesse. She fully embodies the profound and isolating experience of loss.
It is a heavy film with an emotional gut punch in the best way possible. The weight of the grief doesn’t leave you, it lingers long after the watch. It’s not an easy watch, but if you’re looking for a slow burn that is emotionally intense, go for it.
SPOILER ALERT: The first 24 minutes of the film is the best balance of unsettling and beautiful that makes you want to look away yet keep looking.

Why You’ll Love it
A gripping urban thriller that holds up a mirror against the realities of life as a desperate woman. It’s an incredibly intense and nerve-wracking film, with a tone that feels almost documentary-like.
Vanessa Kirby delivers yet again with her raw and grounded performance that hits the right nerves. She is committed to her character, Lynette, and it surely shows. You will see the world through a different lens when the film ends.
If you are a fan of social thrillers and movies that are set against a ticking clock, unfolding over a short, intense timeline that builds toward something major, this one’s for you.

Runtime | 1 hour 38 minutes |
Mood | Lyrical, Melancholic, Intimate |

Why You’ll Love it
This isn’t your typical romance movie. You go in thinking of seeing another story of two illicit lovers set against the backdrop of a time that wasn’t as progressive (19th-century New York in this case). I did not want to watch it either, thinking it would be repetitive and clichè. But what I witnessed is something unforgettable and poetic in the best way.
Katherine Waterston and Vanessa Kirby are absolutely incredible, and their chemistry is what holds the story’s essence. It’s a slow burn that is emotional, deep and visually stunning that you won’t be able to look away, mark my words.
Mr. Jones

Maturity Rating | R (For violent images and some language) |
Runtime | 1 hour 59 minutes |
Mood | Tense, Harrowing, Historically Significant |
Year | 2019 |

Why You’ll Love it
Okay, trust me on this one. If you’re into those ‘no way this really happened’ kind of thrillers, you’ve got to check this out. It’s about a journalist who literally risks everything just to get the truth out there. The tension is wild.
James Norton as Gareth Jones makes you feel every second of his fear and frustration. Then, there’s our amazing Vanessa Kirby, as Ada Brooks, a cautious and sincere journalist who warns Gareth of the dangers he is facing.
What is even more stunning is the way it is shot. Moscow feels polished and almost too perfect, and then you see the brutal, raw side of Ukraine, the contrast is crazy and honestly kind of haunting.
Kill Command

Year | 2016 |

Why You’ll Love it
It’s a gritty sci-fi action film that doesn’t waste time and just throws you right into the tension. It feels raw and unpredictable. Had me guessing the whole way through.
Vanessa Kirby is a big reason it works. She brings this mysterious energy that keeps you watching her every move, and it makes the whole thing feel sharper. For something made on a smaller scale, it looks and feels bigger than you’d expect.
If you’re into intense sci-fi that builds on atmosphere and keeps you hooked till the very end, this one is worth checking out.

Maturity Rating | PG-13 (For thematic elements and some suggestive content) |

Year | 2016 |

Why You’ll Love it
Grab some tissues for this one, seriously. This one broke me. It’s emotional but also kind of sweet in moments, and I wasn’t ready for how hard it hits. The story’s simple a small-town girl ends up caring for this guy after an accident but the way it plays out, you just get sucked in without even noticing.
Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin are amazing together, like you believe them straight away. And yeah, Vanessa Kirby shows up as Alicia, Will’s ex, which adds another little punch to his backstory. By the end, I was a wreck, in the best possible way.
It’s one of those films you cannot help but come back to, like a comfort person.
