John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) are back for the biggest season yet — split into two five-episode parts, with Part 1 dropping Oct. 10 and Part 2 dropping Nov. 7. While one chapter of the Pogues’ story has closed, the next phase of #P4L has only just begun, and the hunt for Blackbeard’s gold is on the horizon. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming fourth season.

Where can I watch a teaser trailer for Outer Banks Season 4?

Right at the top of this post. In classic OBX John B narration, he tells us that the Pogues finally did it — they found the gold. “That’s where the story should have ended. But really, it was just the beginning.” Get a glimpse of the Pogues’ adventure coming home this fall in the teaser trailer above. The stakes are higher than ever in Season 4 — as John B puts it, “We have everything to lose this time.”

What is Outer Banks Season 4 about?

Last we saw of the Pogues in the Season 3 finale,18 months had passed since they found the gold in El Dorado. They were still grappling with the deaths of both Ward (Charles Esten) and Big John (Charles Halford), but were actually taking a moment to process their hard-won victory. After all, “they couldn’t completely lose the third season,” co-creator Shannon Burke previously told Tudum. Co-creator Josh Pate added, “We knew we needed to give them a win, but it ended up being a complicated one. We wanted the audience to feel that they had accomplished something and that it wasn’t all for nothing.”

With the stakes higher than ever in Season 3, the creative minds behind Outer Banks, executive producers and creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Burke, told Tudum they hoped fans would really feel the strength of the Pogues’ friendship. “There’s all this action and adventure, but it’s really about the bond between the friends,” Burke said. But most importantly, Josh Pate wanted all the wannabe Pogues watching at home to feel “the sense that there’s more coming.”

Following last season’s 18-month flash-forward showing Wes Genrette’s (David Jensen) proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s treasure, Season 4 takes us back in time to the lead-up to that moment. After finding the gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to the OBX and commit to having a “normal” life. They’ve built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed “Poguelandia 2.0,” where they live together and run a fairly successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop. But after some financial setbacks, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo take Wes up on his offer, and are drawn back into the “G” game for a whole new adventure.

But before they know it, they’re well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels, racing them to the treasure. Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they’re forced to question their past, present, and future — who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk? And here to welcome you to The Cut’s own Kildare County surf shop are the Pogues themselves. The surf shop is coming to the OBX this fall! Check out the commercial above (written and directed by Daviss!) for the one-stop shop for all your island essentials built by Pogues for Pogues (and some Kooks!), on the old Maybank property.

Who’s in the cast of Outer Banks Season 4?

What would OBX be without the Pogues coming back for their next adventure? Returning series regulars are Stokes as John B, Cline as Sarah, Bailey as Kiara, Daviss as Pope, Pankow as JJ, Grant as Cleo, North as Topper, and Starkey as Rafe. In addition, Fiona Palomo will return as Sofia and has been upped to series regular.

But wait, there’s more! Here are all the new (tanned) faces you can expect to meet in Outer Banks Season 4:

J. Anthony Crane (Dead Ringers, Billions) plays Chandler Groff. Darkly grief-stricken over the loss of his wife, he is welcoming to the Pogues on their latest adventure.

Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Double Blind) plays Dalia, a revolutionary-like leader and worldly baddie on a plunder who comes face-to-face with the Pogues.

Brianna Brown (Dynasty, Eastsiders) plays Hollis Robinson. The biggest realtor on the island who previously worked with Ward in a successful business deal, she now has her eye on Rafe for a new venture.

Rigo Sanchez (Animal Kingdom, Station 19) plays Lightner, an imposing stranger with a piratical nerve. This dangerous and calculating outdoorsman appears to test the Pogues.

Mia Challis (FBI: International, Clickbait) plays Ruthie, a wild child with a toxic streak who develops a close relationship with Topper.

How did the Outer Banks cast announce Season 4?

At none other than Poguelandia, of course! In February 2023, Poguelandia took over Huntington Beach, California, with an immersive fan event, re-creating the Pogues’ island paradise. All the Pogues took to the stage with a couple of the kookiest Kooks — Drew Starkey and Austin North — at Poguelandia to drop the news that Season 4 is on the way … all before Season 3 had even arrived.

Sitting on the edge of the stage, Stokes told the crowd that they were the first to know that “Outer Banks has been renewed for a fourth season!” He took a moment to thank the fans for sticking with John B, the Pogues, and even the Kooks for three and a half years. “This is an incredible moment for all of us,” he said. “To our cast and crew, thank you so much for all of your hard work.”

When did Outer Banks Season 4 start filming?

The gang was back on Kildare Island — with the Twinkie —  from June 2023. Check out behind-the-scenes photos of them on set.

Has Outer Banks Season 4 production wrapped?

Yes. The Pogues have kicked off their flip-flops (and hopped in the shower) because Season 4 filming has officially finished. “It has been a crazy, crazy journey,” says Stokes. “But it’s done.” And now that they’re “wrapski,” the Pogues are game to get in on the post production. Check out the video above to see Grant try her hand at ocean sound effects and Daviss jump on the computer to edit. Jokes aside, they’re all “so stoked” to bring Season 4 to the fans. Now we just have to count down the days of post production (hopefully minus any Pogue input), and we’ll be back on Kildare Island before we know it.

When’s the Outer Banks Season 4 release date?

The Pogues will wash back up on shore in fall, with Part 1 out Oct. 10 and Part 2 out Nov. 7. In the meantime, relive the past three seasons of Outer Banks now on Netflix — and keep coming back to Tudum to learn more about the Pogues’ latest adventure.
